Consequences of DUI Conviction

Posted on:2/1/2012
A DUI conviction has serious consequences. Criminal penalties are not the only consequences of a DUI conviction. There is more to a DUI conviction than just criminal penalties.

Your insurance rates will go through the roof if you have been convicted for DUI. There is no way you can hide a DUI conviction from your insurance company. In many states if you want to restore your driving privileges, you must get a form signed by your insurance company. So they will know of your conviction whether or not you want them to know.

If you are located in a state that does not require your insurance company to sign the form, you still will not be able to hide your DUI conviction from your insurance company. Most insurance companies conduct a background check at the time of renewal of the insurance policy. Your DUI conviction will show up in the search. You cannot beat the increase in your insurance rates by changing your insurance company. Every insurance company will conduct a background check on new applicants. They will see your DUI conviction and the rate you will be charged will be higher.

Some insurance companies have a clause in the policy that provides for immediate termination of the insurance policy upon DUI conviction. Driving without insurance is an offense. So you must get a new insurance policy but you will end up paying more if you have a DUI conviction on your record.
