Some states have statutes permitting the expungment or sealing of criminal records upon application by a person who is able to show that he has rehabilitated himself and that the record works a prejudicial effect upon him. Such records then may be removed from law enforcement files and either destroyed or kept in a sealed file in a court office, and the offender is permitted to state he has never been convicted of crime.

The fact of conviction of a DUI offense, particularly of a felony DUI, is of great significance to the offender even after he is released from the correctional process. Typically a felony conviction prohibits the offender from serving on a jury, from holding public office, and from voting. It may also prohibit him from entering certain professions, such as the medical profession, legal profession, or licensed occupations such as those of a barber or plumber.

Even if you are convicted of DUI, DUI lawyers can help you clear your DUI record. An experienced DUI lawyer knows the legal process of clearing your DUI record.

A DUI lawyer can determine if you are eligible for expungment and make the application for expungment on your behalf. Generally you can apply for expungment of criminal record if you are a first time offender and there is no criminal charges pending against you at the time of the expungment application.

Never take a DUI charge lightly. A felony DUI charge is far more serious. If convicted of a felony DUI, you will be sent to prison even if it is your first offense. Talk to an experienced DUI lawyer. DUI lawyers can review your case and develop a defense strategy.
