Don't Argue With the Arresting Officer

Posted on:6/22/2012
DUI is a serious criminal offense. Don't take chances fighting a DUI charge alone. Hire the services of an experienced DUI attorney.

As the defendant in a DUI case, you have the right to fight the charges against you. You are not legally required to accept the charges against you. You can plead not guilty.

If you want to fight the DUI charge against you, you must fight the charge in a court of law. There is no point in arguing with the police officer who arrests you. Generally when a police officer decides to stop a motorist for DUI, he has more or less made up his mind to arrest the motorist for DUI. So you will only be wasting your energy arguing with him.

Sometimes arguing with the police officer can make a bad situation worse. So just do as he says but do not give any information other than you name. The police will use everything you say to get a conviction. Once he arrests you, tell him that you want to speak to your attorney. Let your attorney do the talking.

You should focus your energy on the actions of the arresting officer. Make a note of everything he does from the moment he stops you till you are placed under arrest. There are certain steps which the arresting officer must comply with. Failure to do so can result in the arrest being declared an unlawful arrest.
